Salt Dough

Lots of fun for the kiddos!

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups of Flour
  • 1 cup of Salt
  • 1½ cup of Hot Water (from tap)
  • 2 tsp Vegetable Oil (Optional-make dough easier to work with)
Directions:
  •  Mix the salt & flour together, then gradually add the water until the dough becomes elastic; add oil now.
  • If your mixture comes out to sticky, simply add more flour. If it turns out too crumbly, simply add more water.
  • Knead the dough until it’s a good consistency.
  • Then get out rolling pins, cups, bowls, straws, cookie cutters, plastic utensils & let the fun begin.
Options:
If you want colored dough add food coloring to the water before mixing it to the dry ingredients. Or you can paint your creation after you bake it.
Cook Temp: 200°F
Cook Time: Baking time will vary depending on the size & thickness of objects, make sure that all of it is hard before removing from the oven. If the dough starts to darken before cooking is complete, cover with foil. Painted keepsakes will need to be sealed on all sides with clear varnish or polyurethane spray.
Notes: Kids made Christmas ornaments in school with this recipe & so did I when I was little.
