Kitchen & Dining Room Updates

So here is what we have been up to...home ownership is a work in progress, or a money pit...or both, lol! We did a lot of the work ourselves.

And now drum rolls please.....let the fun begin. We have had oil rubbed bronze, & antqiue brass/golds for the past 13 years so it was time for a change. We introduced more whites & grays,  changed to nickel, pewter & stainless steel. I am IN LOVE with Rub-n-Buff Pewter & Silver Leaf. I was able to reuse all of my old decorative items by just refinishing them (which of course I love to do, saves money & recycles all at once, BONUS)!

I painted the cabinets using Benjamin Moore Classic Grey in the most expensive type they make in a satin finish, for easy cleanup. Installed new nickel hardware to the cabinets, new plumbing fixtures/faucets, new appliances, new lights fixtures & new wood laminate flooring throughout downstairs.

So without further adieu here it is!

BEFORE: It said welcome to the 90's (though it was built in 2001)!

BEFORE: Old white tile with stained grout, oak cabinets (my least fav), vinyl floors.
BEFORE: Old Drop in style Kenmore Stoves & Micro
BEFORE: Bar Area

BEFORE: Dining room had carpet & modern chandelier
BEFORE: Carpet throughout the living & dining area.

And now here is the dramatic updates to the house. I am in love with it now!

Painted the cabinets grey with beadboard inserts and new satin nickel hardware added.
Added built in panty shelf & gray granite counters. New satin nickel light fixtures throughout house.
New Stainless Steel Plumbing Fixtures
New Stainless Steel Appliances
View into Dining Room. New Crystal Chandelier  <swoon>
New Wood Laminate Flooring Throughout Downstairs.
Living Room: Those French Crystals though <swoon>
Dining Room: New crystal chandeleir & lamintae wood floors throughout downstairs.
I love plate walls!

Lots of sweat, bruises, a little blood...laughter & some tears went into this project. It was well worth it. We hope to enjoy this home that God has blessed us with more many years to come.

  1. Beautiful remodel! Looks like quite a labor of love. Can you tell me the wall colors?

  2. Did you strip the cabinets before painting them? If not, what paint did you use that would cover the original finish?

    1. Did not strip them. Priming them would have been a good idea in hindsight. The paint I used is listed in the 3rd paragraph above

  3. I was looking at your kitchen details. By your sink it looks like you have a built-in soap pump and a dedicated hot water faucet (Insinkerator as they called them) Is that correct? When we rebuilt after a tornado I chose a faucet with built-in soap dispenser and wish I hadn't. :-( Seemed like a good idea at the time, but you live and learn! Also had an Insinkerator and LOVED IT! You did a great job; everything is just lovely!
