So I saw this project on a HT, a blog and on Pinterest and decided to give it a try. Oh boy, it's addicting! I could make these all day everyday. I rescued some vintage glass from my yard sale after laying in bed with my mind over thinking things (insomnia) and feeling the creative juices flowing (always strikes me at night), I ran out to garage at 2am after an ah-ha moment. Love it when you have what you need, right under your nose, to create something beautiful!
I will be searching for some sturdy wire to hang it with after the silicone sets up (takes 24 hrs to set all the way). Also I will use the already shelled seed in my feeder to avoid mess, waste & weeds. I did hear a warning from another person to be careful where you hang it because if the sun hits it just right it can get really hot and catch whatever the light hits on fire (think ants and a magnifying glass) YIKES! So FIY hang it in a shaded area. I am testing mine out and hoping it stays intact on a windy day...we get a lot of windy days here. A word of caution; anything is possible, and glass is breakable. Will update the post if I have an issue with it.

| All hung and ready to feed the birdies! |

| Silicone is setting up for 24 hours. Then I will add hanging wire. |
  |
| Had a medium and large one of these, a decanter & a mini candle holder that I used. |
After a day of thrift'in found some more gems & decided to make a few more feeders.
  |
| Used a vintage lamps shade for these, had a hole in the top perfect for glass knobs (used a washer on the inside). |

| So cute & fun to make...careful it's addicting! |
Happy crafting everyone! Have a blessed weekend.

Absolutely beautiful daughter, just like you!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute! I'm looking to make my first one. What kind of wire did you use to hang?
ReplyDeleteI used 18 gauge stainless steel wire that I purchased at a hardware store...good luck. They are so much fun to make...it's addicting!
DeleteSo, how and where exactly did you connect the wire? Is it only around the top or does it extend through all the pieces to the bottom? Like, did you drill a hole through everything?
ReplyDeleteI am so making some of these!!

DeleteI did not drill. Only used wire wrapped around top to hang the feeder with. I used food grade clear silicone to stick the pieces together like glue. Good luck, you will have so much fun making these and the most fun hunting for vintage glass!
